Dr. Livia Augustin is a Nutritional Counsellor who trained at the University of Toronto with Dr. David Jenkins. Her research and expertise is in carbohydrates, including dietary fibre and glycemic index, in metabolic disorders: pre-diabetes (glucose control), diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease risk factors (high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure).

Dr. Augustin has worked for 10 years in clinical trials (St. Michel's Hospital and University of Toronto) Some of these studies investigated the effect of different glycemic index diets on blood sugar control and risk factors for cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients the effect of wheat bran on blood lipids in individuals with high cholesterol. Other research has looked at the impact of high vs. low glycemic index diets on the risk of cancer of the colon, breast, prostate, uterus, ovary, stomach and upper digestive tract.

Livia has also taught University of Toronto students of all levels and is a widely published scholar and presenter at scientific conferences. She serves as a reviewer for international scientific journals.

She has been in clinical practice in the east end of Toronto and is now expanding her practice to include Bloor West Village.
