Since April 2011, Pivot Sport Medicine & Orthopaedics has adopted an electronic medical records (EMR) program.  In recent years, the adoption of EMR by medical and allied health professionals has increased dramatically.  For Pivot, the gradual transition into EMR has been a great benefit not only to the practitioners working at Pivot but also for the patients, as they will benefit from an enhanced collaborative care from the team at Pivot. 

What does collaborative care mean for new and existing patients at Pivot? It will improve the already existing team work ability that Pivot staff strives by and it will allow both allied health care professionals and patients to work together more closely to enhance patient care.  EMR enhances communication regarding patient’s healthcare outcomes.  It means sharing a more complete picture of a patient’s health profile with all the allied healthcare practitioners involved in the patient’s care. 

EMR also gives patients the ability to log in and feed information or retrieve select information from their patient file.  The patient portal gives patients’ appointment reminders, allows them to update their medical history, read newsletters put out by Pivot on various health and injury related topics, they can also communicate with Pivot through a secure messaging system allowing the healthcare practitioners to provide feedback and advice so as to better track a patient’s progress.

As Pivot continues to transition into a full EMR system use, it knows that this tool allows great potential for all Pivot staff to work together in a collaborative environment, to make their patients better faster!
